Tree service in Matanzas Woods & Lehigh Woods

Tree care for Matanzas Woods and Lehigh Woods, where the canopy is oldest

Closer to the Matanzas River, the lots have more age on them, the oaks are larger and the pines stand taller. We remove trees that hang over houses, prune so the canopy stays, and clean up after each named storm.

Lehigh Woods and Matanzas Woods sit side by side in north Palm Coast. Matanzas Woods is the L section, north of Palm Coast Parkway along Matanzas Woods Parkway and Old Kings Road North. Both were built out over the 1980s, '90s and 2000s, and many lots kept a good share of their original trees. That gives these streets the oldest, fullest canopy anywhere in the city. Live oaks reach 60 feet with Spanish moss hanging over the road, laurel oaks are dying off on their usual 50-year timeline, slash pines rise well above two-story roofs, and there are the palms that landscapers added over the years. The river is near enough that its northeast wind causes the first storm damage each year, and these leafy streets are always the slowest to clear.

Most of what we do here is taking down oaks and pines, using the crane when there is nowhere to drop them. We also prune or remove laurel oaks according to their risk, give live oaks structural pruning that lifts them off the roof while keeping the canopy, trim palms, grind stumps, and clear the infill lots still being built along Old Kings Road North. Any tree six inches or larger needs a Palm Coast permit, which we file together with the estimate and supporting photos. Because the area holds so many trees, Matanzas Woods is one of the first stops on our route after a storm.

What we do in Matanzas Woods & Lehigh Woods

Removing oaks and pines

Where there is no drop zone, a crane lifts the tree over the house. Where there is one, we climb and take it down in sections.

Live oak pruning

Pruning for structure and clearance to ANSI A300, so you keep both the tree and its shade.

Laurel oak calls

An honest risk opinion on each 50-year-old laurel oak: prune it, cable it or take it down.

Palm trimming

Sabals, queens, Washingtonias and date palms cleaned up neatly.

Clearing infill lots

Lots along Old Kings Road North cleared, with the permit and the replacement-tree numbers worked out.

Storm response

An early stop after each storm. Trees come off houses first, and debris is staged for the county.

Questions from Matanzas Woods & Lehigh Woods homeowners

A live oak hangs over my roof. Should it be removed or pruned?

Pruned, in nearly every case. Live oaks are the strongest trees in Florida, and the danger is usually one heavy limb above the roof rather than the whole tree. We shorten and clear the limbs over the house and leave the canopy over the street.

What are the warning signs on a laurel oak?

Fungus growing at the base, a hollow sound when you tap the trunk, large limbs dying back, or a lean that was not there before. If a laurel oak older than 40 shows any of these, have us look at it. The visit is free and you will get an honest answer.

Will you need a crane on my street?

If the tree is over the house and has no open side, yes. A crane is often quicker and safer than a full day of rope work. We match the crane to the tree and set it up where the street has room.

Do I need a permit to take down a dead tree?

Yes. Palm Coast requires one for every tree six inches and larger, but with photos a dead or hazardous tree gets approved fast. We handle the filing.

After a hurricane, how long until you get to Matanzas Woods?

Across the city, trees on houses are handled first, usually within a day. Clearing yard debris in Matanzas Woods takes longer only because there is so much of it, and we stage it so the county haulers can collect it from the right-of-way.
