West of I-95 the county opens up — Bunnell proper, the ranchettes off County Road 302 and 305, Daytona North, Grand Reserve, the new subdivisions along State Road 100, and the timber and pasture land in between. The trees are slash and longleaf pines by the hundred, big live oaks at the old homesteads, water oaks along the ditches, and the palmetto-and-scrub understory that has to come out before anything gets built.
The work is different from a Palm Coast quarter-acre. Clearing is by the acre with a forestry mulcher, removals are of 80-foot pines with room to drop them, and stumps are pulled rather than ground when a pad is going in. Permits run through Flagler County for unincorporated land and the City of Bunnell inside the city limits. After storms we handle the pines across driveways and the oaks on barns and pole sheds, and we haul when the county isn't collecting out here.

Do I need a permit to clear land in Bunnell?
Inside the city, a City of Bunnell permit; in unincorporated Flagler County, a county land-clearing permit with a tree survey once you're removing regulated trees. Agricultural land has exemptions — we'll tell you if yours qualifies.
How much does it cost to clear an acre?
Forestry mulching runs about $1,800 to $3,500 per acre for understory and trees up to eight inches or so; full clearing with large-tree removal, grubbing and hauling runs $4,000 to $9,000 per acre depending on density.
Can you drop the tree instead of climbing it?
On acreage, usually yes — which is why removals out here cost less than the same tree in a Palm Coast yard. We fell it, buck it, and either chip it, stack it for firewood or haul it.
Do you come out to the far west side of the county?
