What does an ISA Certified Arborist actually do?
Assess trees for health and structural risk, diagnose disease and decline, specify pruning correctly, and write the reports that permits, insurers and HOAs rely on. Certification is through the International Society of Arboriculture and has to be maintained with continuing education.
What is the Florida Statute 163.045 letter?
A 2019 Florida law (amended in 2022) that says a local government can't require a permit, or replacement trees, to remove a tree on residential property when an ISA Certified Arborist or Florida-licensed landscape architect documents in writing that the tree presents an unacceptable risk. We write the letter when the assessment supports it.
Will you write a letter so I can remove a healthy tree?
No. The letter has to be honest to be worth anything, and a false one exposes both of us. If the tree doesn't qualify, we'll pull the city permit for you instead — most are approved.
My insurance company wants a tree report before renewal. Can you do that?
Yes. Carriers in Florida increasingly ask for documentation on large trees near the house. We assess, photograph, and recommend pruning or removal where it's warranted, in a format underwriters accept.
Can you tell if my oak is a laurel oak or a live oak?
In about ten seconds, and it matters: a live oak near the house is usually an asset for another hundred years; a laurel oak of the same size is approaching the end of its life and hollowing. We'll walk the property and tell you which is which.
Do you charge for the assessment if I hire you for the work?
The verbal assessment on a quote visit is free. Written reports are priced above, and the 163.045 letter fee is credited against the removal.
