Stump grinding in Palm Coast

Stumps ground below grade, surface roots chased out so the mower doesn't find them, and the hole backfilled and raked so you can sod or plant over it.

Stump grinder removing a large oak stump in a Palm Coast front yard

A stump left behind in a Florida yard becomes a termite buffet, a mower hazard and, with laurel oaks, a nursery for sprouts that come up for years. Grinding it out is quicker and cheaper than digging, doesn't tear up the lawn the way an excavator does, and leaves a hole you can sod the same week.

We use a tracked grinder that fits through a 36-inch gate for backyard stumps and a larger tow-behind for big oaks and pines out front. We grind to 8–12 inches below grade — deeper on request if you're planting a new tree or pouring a slab — chase the surface roots that would trip the mower, and either haul the chips or rake them back into the hole and top with soil.

How deep do you grind?

8 to 12 inches below grade for sod or grass. If you're planting a new tree in the same spot or pouring concrete, tell us and we'll go 16–20 inches.

Can you fit in my backyard?

The tracked grinder is 35 inches wide and fits through a standard gate. If the only access is through the pool cage, we'll take a panel out and put it back.

Will the stump grow back?

Oak, especially laurel oak, will sprout from any roots left near the surface. Grinding below grade and chasing the big surface roots stops almost all of it; a few sprouts the first year get mowed and die.
