Most Palm Coast trees come down with a climber and ropes. A crane is for the rest: the oak whose crown is over the roof and the pool cage at once, the pine on a lot too tight for a bucket truck, the storm-damaged tree that's already cracked and can't be trusted to hold a climber, or the big removal where rigging would take days of lifts over the house. The crane picks each section straight up and swings it to the street, where a ground crew bucks and chips it.
We use a 40- to 80-ton crane depending on the reach, set on outrigger pads on the driveway or the street (with the city's right-of-way permit when it's the street). The climber ties the pick, the operator lifts, and the section never swings over your roof. A large oak that would take two days of climbing comes out before lunch, with less lawn damage, because the bucket truck never leaves the pavement.

Is crane removal more expensive?
The crane adds $900 to $1,500 of mobilization, but it usually replaces two days of climbing and rigging labor, so on big trees over the house it's often the same price or cheaper — and always safer.
Will the crane damage my driveway or pavers?
We set the outriggers on cribbing and pads that spread the load; pavers get plywood and mats. In twenty years of crane work the answer is no, and it's in writing on the contract.
Can a crane reach my backyard?
A 60-ton crane reaches 80 to 120 feet from the street or driveway, which covers most Palm Coast lots. For deep lots we look at a larger crane or a knuckle-boom from the side yard.
Do you need a permit for the crane?
For the tree, the usual City of Palm Coast tree permit or arborist letter. For the crane, only when it sets up in the street — then a right-of-way permit, which we pull.
How long does a crane removal take?
Most single-tree crane jobs are two to four hours on site, including chipping. The crane leaves; we finish the cleanup and the stump.
Is it safe with the pool cage right there?
That's the point of the crane — sections lift straight up and away instead of swinging on ropes near the screen. We also cover the cage panels nearest the tree.
